About the role:

Autonomous systems are a new breed of product that bring together electro-mechanical hardware and real-time AI software. The complexity of the systems combined with the fact they can move freely in the real world makes consistent, high-quality manufacturing critical to delivering a great product to customers. 

Skydio is seeking a talented multi-disciplinary engineering manager to own the manufacturing processes through which state-of-the-art autonomous flying machines are made available to a broad audience. Skydio is scaling its in-house manufacturing capabilities to meet demand with this role being a critical component to success.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Collaborate with operations, product development, quality, test, and infrastructure teams to define product assembly requirements.
  • Generate timely DFA/DFM feedback and work with engineering organizations to make optimal design trade-offs for Skydio’s long-term success.
  • Design, implement, and validate fixtures, equipment, process controls, and tests to ensure stable manufacturing within fast development schedules. 
  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential productivity and yield losses.
  • Monitor and evaluate product requirements and production efficiencies to drive capacity and throughput improvements.
  • Production equipment maintenance and repair processes. 
  • Continuously improve quality and efficiency and reduce cost through reduction of waste and variability using lean and six sigma methods.

What makes you a good fit: 

  • Previously led engineering based teams in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Strong electro-mechanical background preferred
  • Capacity planning, cycle time optimization, and bottleneck analysis 
  • Design control systems to minimize costs and production issues
  • Develop design and production standards in cooperation with management and user personnel
  • Prepare material and equipment lists, purchase orders, cost analyses and estimated production costs
  • Design the layout of facilities and determine personnel requirements
  • Support staff training for new processes and provide instructions and manuals
  • Proficient in CAD (CATIA, SolidWorks, Creo)
  • Ability to write simple scripts (Python, SQL) to aggregate and analyze defect, yield, and productivity data and generate reports
  • Enthusiasm to dive in and provide engineering creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, communication, and cross-functional teamwork skills
  • Industrial, electrical, or mechanical engineering degree preferred. 

Compensation: At Skydio, our compensation packages for full-time employees include competitive base salaries, equity in the form of options, comprehensive benefits, and various incentives and stipends. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Relocation assistance may also be provided for eligible roles. The annual base salary range for this position is $145,000 - 195,000*.
