Autonomous flying robots that make our world safer and more efficient.

Take on the most challenging and impactful work of your career.

Our team creates and delivers the cutting edge of aerial autonomy.

Autonomous drones are the Mount Everest of technology, with a product stack spanning AI and robotics software, cameras and optics, complex electro-mechanical systems, connectivity, cloud, mobile, aerodynamics, and more.

Our team is made up of world class engineers from all of these disciplines, experts in the industries that we serve from special forces operators to journeymen linemen to public safety leaders, and everyone in between.

We’ve delivered over 45,000 drones and have 9 figures of annual revenue with rapid growth.

But we’re still just scratching the surface of what’s possible with autonomous flying robots.

What we do is hard and Skydio can be intense. But equally rewarding.

There is an enormous amount of passion at Skydio for the tech we build and for the customers we serve that fuels our work. And building the coolest tech to have the kind of positive impact that we’re driving is also incredibly fun. We take our work seriously but not ourselves.

We make the bleeding edge of technology useful. But It’s not about novelty, or engineering for engineering’s sake. We value purpose-built things that solve real world problems — things that can be counted on to perform in critical situations. We expect everyone at Skydio to think critically about what matters most to our customers — and make decisions accordingly.

Ready to join our team?

We’re building the coolest tech on the planet. To do it at the level and pace our mission demands takes a world-class team. And so, our hiring process reflects this reality.

We’ve provided some info below to give you a feel for what it’s like to interview with Skydio. We’ve also included some general questions that you may want to have answered. Our recruiting team is here to help answer any additional questions you may have.

FAQs

Note from our CEO, Adam Bry:

We are building the world’s best automated data capture platform, and most of the 20+ industries we sell to are hidden from everyday view. Most of us don’t see the arduous inspections and maintenance that go into keeping the energy grid running, or a construction site safe, or a bridge in good working order, so it’s hard to have intuition about how impactful it is to use autonomous drones to capture better data faster and keep inspectors on the ground rather than climbing or suspended from heavy machinery.

Almost exactly the same data capture platform that is used to inspect critical infrastructure is used by police officers and soldiers. These are big and important markets for us. Our work in these industries can be controversial, but I believe it is also where we have some of our most significant positive impact. Our drones are designed to put sensors in the most dangerous and important places to get the most important information to make better decisions to get better outcomes.

In serving all of our customers, public safety and defense included, our primary focus is shipping the best possible products to help these folks do their jobs better and safer. Is there risk of misuse and abuse? Absolutely - in fact at scale it’s a certainty that our products will occasionally be used in ways we vehemently disagree with. But we exert influence beyond the technology that we make. We stand alone among drone companies in publishing a set of principles we use to guide our efforts. I don’t want to live in or build a dystopian future where drones are proactively and randomly used to surveil all of us. In addition to our general principles we’ve worked within the law enforcement community to codify and spread best practices. We continually work with our customers, regulators, and policy-makers to deploy the technology responsibly and maximize positive impact.

Every day police officers use Skydio drones for search and rescue missions where the seconds count and a drone can cover territory 10x faster than an officer on the ground on foot. They use our drones for crime and accident scene mapping to create a perfect digital evidentiary copy of the scene. The reality of law enforcement in America is that almost any citizen a police officer interacts with could be carrying a gun. Our drones are used on a daily basis to de-escalate life and death situations. What would be an 8 hour manhunt through a neighborhood for an armed suspect can be resolved in minutes with less risk to everyone involved - the officers, the community, and the suspect. Drones are like flying body-cameras - they increase transparency and accountability, but unlike body cameras they can also change outcomes by getting a real time perspective that would be impossible any other way.

Our most successful public safety agency customers go to great lengths to not invade anyone’s privacy, and provide full transparency to their communities on their drone programs. We roll up our sleeves alongside them as part of our Skydio for All program, participating in community events, often with local schools, to spread awareness on the technology and how it’s used.

In the defense world, our category of product is what’s known as “organic ISR'' which translates to soldier-carried and soldier-deployed flying sensors that provide intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. In contrast to most military aerial systems, our products are used by the most junior folks in the military, whose lives are most often at risk on the battlefield, carrying out orders derived from leaders we elect. Our products enable them to see what’s over the hill or what’s around the building. Are they used to target munitions and tell friend from foe from civilians? Yes. Are they used for a myriad of other purposes like base security, search and rescue, ship and aircraft inspection? Yes. War is hell, but we believe our country and our world is better off if leading technology companies like Skydio partner with the US and its allies to help our soldiers do their jobs better and safer when necessary and deter conflict as much as possible.

Like all organizations, agencies in these domains face serious challenges and sometimes make mistakes. In public safety and defense, the stakes are high and the consequences for mistakes can be tragic. They deserve public scrutiny and we have the humility to know that we don’t have the final say on how our products are used. We shouldn’t. The public safety and defense customers we sell to are ultimately accountable to democratically elected governments, and they make the final decisions.

You don’t have to be all in on public safety or the military to work at Skydio, and you also shouldn’t choose Skydio if you want to work at a defense contractor or a company exclusively focused on law enforcement. We serve a wide range of customers including transportation, logistics, energy, construction, and more. And we have a diversity of perspectives on defense and public safety among our employees at Skydio which I believe makes us a stronger organization, increases our thoughtfulness in how we approach these markets, and increases our positive impact in the world.

For my part, some of the highest integrity, most mission-oriented people I’ve met in building Skydio are customers in these worlds, and I fundamentally believe in our ability to help them do their jobs better and safer, to our benefit as a society, with our technology. I am immensely proud to call them customers.

We believe when our teams have the opportunity to work side by side, amazing things happen. Especially in the moments “in-between” — whether it’s a hallway conversation, an impromptu whiteboard session or a coffee chat in the kitchen — these are the moments when real magic happens, when ideas are born, problems are solved and our teams and technology become stronger. We build physical things that operate in the physical world — making it all the more important for our team to be together. While expectations are slightly different across teams and roles, we are first and foremost, an office-centric company.

Over the last few years we have become more distributed than ever with Skydians spread across the globe. Our office and operating protocols are designed to support a global team while prioritizing being together in the office. Remote Skydians join us in the office on a regular basis throughout the quarter to ensure they’re building connections with team members. Meanwhile, our conference rooms are outfitted to enable remote employees to feel like they are in the room, regardless of where in the world they may be.

Skydio is headquartered in San Mateo, California, with a manufacturing hub close by in Hayward. Satellite offices in Boston, Japan, and India extend our global reach.

"Skydio drones are being used to save lives and aid in the maintenance of critical infrastructure in ways that sounded like science fiction just a few years ago. We couldn't be more excited to continue our partnership with Skydio as they solidify their position as the world's most innovative drone technology company.”

Bastiaan Janmaat, Managing Director, Linse Capital

We believe in the significance of informed choices, both for our candidates and for Skydio. Recognizing that deciding where to work and who to work with are pivotal decisions, our interview process is thoughtfully comprehensive. We're committed to investing the time to genuinely understand who you are, while equally providing you with ample opportunity to deeply acquaint yourself with how we operate as a team.

  1. Introductory Call: Your journey starts with a conversation with our recruiter. This initial interaction sets the stage for a mutual exploration of possibilities and alignment.

  2. Phone or Video Screen(s): Progress to in-depth discussions with the hiring manager and key team members. Here, we delve into your skills and aspirations, and you gain a clearer view of the role and what it entails.

  3. In-Person Interview Day: A detailed and immersive experience.

    1. Candidate Introduction (30 mins): A platform for you to share your story and key projects/experiences with the team. This is an opportunity for you to highlight the aspects of your background and experience in a way that captures your story and sets the stage for deeper, more productive 1:1 conversations.

    2. 1:1 Conversations (30-45 mins each): At this point, you’ll get a chance to talk with three to five Skydians. These sessions are designed to help you learn about the nuances of our work and team ethos.

    3. Lunch and Interactive Sessions: Bond over a meal with team members, take a tour of our engineering facilities, and experience our latest technology through hands-on demos.

We strive for meaningful conversations that help us understand how your unique skills and perspectives align with our mission. Our interview approach mirrors our collaborative work ethos. We engage candidates with scenario-based questions that reflect the real-world challenges of the role, and facilitate open-ended, collaborative discussions. This method isn't about looking for specific answers, but more about understanding your thought process and your ability to navigate complex problems within a team.

At Skydio, we prioritize in-person interviews for the face-to-face stage, as it's the best way for you to experience our office environment, have meaningful interactions with potential team members, and give you hands-on experience with our products. However, we understand that circumstances can vary. For certain roles or individual situations, we're flexible in accommodating virtual interviews. Whether in-person or online, our goal is the same: to ensure a meaningful and insightful experience that highlights the collaborative spirit of Skydio.

We know that waiting for a response can be an anxious time, so we strive for timeliness in reviewing applications. While we can't promise an exact time frame due to the thoroughness of our selection process, rest assured that we will get back to you, regardless of the outcome. Our commitment is to keep you informed throughout your candidate experience with Skydio.

Our resource center and blog are great places to start: everything from latest product updates to datasheets and whitepapers of our products.
