This week's #SkydioFeaturedFlyer blog post we will be getting to know one of the most prolific female skiers of the last decade. Lynsey Dyer is not only known for her incredible skiing abilities, but also her passion for inspiring women to push their limits and live an active lifestyle. Lynsey has been flying and creating content with Skydio since the launch of Skydio R1. Lynsey not only inspires through her content on social media, she also has done multiple Ted Talks on how to ski like a girl and film making. Lynsey has produced/directed her own feature film called 'Pretty Faces' and currently has her own podcast on iTunes called 'Showing Up'. We're so excited that Lynsey is a Skydio Featured Flyer, and we want our community to get to know and support her in her future endeavors.
Hey Lynsey! Tell us a little bit about who you are and some of your proudest accomplishments.
Creating a career most still tell me is impossible while keeping integrity. It’s hard to make a living as a female in a niche sport like Free skiing. Somehow, even in these crazy times partnerships with a few great brands, smaller but mighty in alignment with my values have kept me afloat, doing what I love and living proof to girls and women that we belong. We belong in athletics, we belong in the mountains, and we belong in tech. It’s been tough to walk away from good paying partnerships that didn’t feel right...from big beer brands like Coors to single use plastic brands like Coke to magazine requests from Playboy and FHM. There have been many times it’s hard to know what to do next because there is no set out pathway so the best I can do is live in the moment and allow.
Why did you decide to partner with Skydio?
Skydio has created the most progressive form of self-capture media out there. As an athlete who relies on video and photography to create art I can now self capture versus relying on outside videographers or photographers who ultimately own my image. Skydio has brought me independence like never before to express the magic I see in nature that I’ve been unable to share On my own terms... until now.
What is your favorite activity to pair with your Skydio 2?
I love to Onewheel with my Skydio 2 or maybe river surfing! It’s so exciting!!
What is your favorite video that you've shot with your Skydio 2, what do you love about it?
My favorite video I shot with the S2 was of my dear friends river surfing in class three rapids where we all gather to surf in the mountains. No one had ever seen footage like this before and certainly not from a female drone pilot. It was scary to shoot knowing water can be tough for drones and a big risk but this time it worked out.
What is your favorite Skydio Skill, Tip or Trick?
Gosh I’m still learning... to be honest my favorite tip is probably putting batteries in my sports bra to keep them warm in the cold.🤣🤣
