Last week we started our Skydio Featured Flyer blog series focusing on getting to know Skydio’s unique ambassadors. We’re stoked to be able to support these awesome creators who have helped Skydio get to where we are today.
This week we sat down with pro mountain biker, Darren Berrecloth to see how he has been using his Skydio 2. Darren is an absolute legend in the downhill mountain biking world, so we knew he would have tons of awesome use-cases for filming with Skydio 2.
To put it mildly, he did not disappoint. Darren has flown his Skydio 2 over dirt and snow, through the valleys of British Columbia, to the peaks of the Italian Dolomites with Skydio 2 filming his journey the whole way. Darren has captured some of the most epic Skydio 2 content we’ve seen, from his Winter wonderland snow bike ride, to being featured multiple times in the Skydio 2 launch video.
Tell us a little bit about who you are and some of your proudest accomplishments.
Who I am, hey! Well, I’m a dude that grew up in a small town that fell in love with biking and anything else outdoors.
That passion for the outdoors led me to become a professional mountain bike athlete for the past 19 years. I’ve been on an amazing adventure traveling the globe chasing competitions and searching for the ultimate freeride terrain to film and shoot. To me, that Is my biggest accomplishment. My fond memories I’ve made meeting and shredding with amazing people around the globe and still making more every day.
Why did you decide to partner with Skydio?
A few years ago I was desperately searching for a drone company that had the capability to follow me while I’m riding. GoPro has the POV scene dialed but the missing link for me was a drone that was automated. It wasn’t long after Skydio R1 was on the market that I tracked you guys down and inquired about a partnership as I knew right away how good their tech really was. Nobody can come close to the capability of Skydio’s product.
What is your favorite activity to pair with your Skydio 2?
For me, I really enjoy shredding big mountains on a mountain bike and on my snow bike. The visuals you get while shredding big mountains are almost as good as shredding it.
What is your favorite video that you’ve shot with your Skydio 2, what do you love about it?
My favorite video I’ve shot so far would be the snow bike videos. It gives you the feeling you’re actually there shredding, showing the landscape the way I see it.
What is your favorite Skydio Skill, Tip or Trick?
My favorite tip would be, while out in the wilderness, use the Beacon to put the drone up in Motion or Fixed track mode, pick the best angle, which for me is in front/left or front/right, and drop in!
Anything else you would like to share?
My favorite way to transport the drone is in the small travel case as it fits in almost every mid-size riding bag.
